Welcome to LINX Martial Arts!  My name is Mr. T and I am the LINX Martial Arts Director.  I have an extensive Martial Arts background with black belts in Kempo Karate and Jiu Jitsu.  I understand that you may have questions about your child's year at LINX.  Please read the following information to learn more about what your child should expect this year.

1.  Will we ever have the opportunity to watch the class?
You will have several opportunities throughout the year to watch your child's class.  Each Martial Arts level will participate in two public shows each year (January and June).  The January show will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Babson College Sorenson Theater (times TBD).  Belt progression tests will be held annually at the June shows, while belt stripes are given out once your child has a purple belt.  In-class demonstrations will be held every 10 weeks and are a great way to view your child's progress and see us in action.  The first in-class demonstrations will be held the week of November 8-13.  During this week, you will drop off at the normal class time and you will be invited into the classroom ten minutes after the start of class.

2.  How does my child progress in class?
There are many ways throughout the year in which your child can progress in class.  In addition to the annual belt progressions, I will also be awarding skill patches for different categories and 3 levels within each category (bronze, silver and gold).  The patches include first aid, bully awareness, stranger danger, emergency response, sparring, gold star for demonstrations, gold laurel wreath for tournaments, gold scroll for historic references, inverted fire for patience and a helper patch.  With more dedication, hard work and attendance, your child will have the opportunity to receive patches more frequently. In addition, we will have a wall chart that tracks your child's achievement within the class: power, flexibility, forms, combinations, attendance and much more.  This visual positive reward system will help motivate your children throughout the year.

3.  How can I help my child succeed?
Don't forget: practice makes perfect!  Have your child show you the forms learned in class and ask about the class each week. Also, review the definitions that I will provide in an email each month.  Please also make sure your child wears his/her gi each week to help with badge receipt.

4.  What does my child need to bring to class?
Your child will receive a gi (uniform) at the beginning of class (included in your membership).  As your child grows and needs larger sizes, please let us know and we will provide your child with a new gi.

Please feel free to ask me any questions that may arise via martialarts@linx-usa.com.
