Math MunchersChildren are engaged in a variety of hands-on experiences to introduce and reinforce the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework. Students engage in problem solving, communicating, reasoning, connecting and representing as they explore the properties of shapes, build patterns, practice and recognize attributes of measurement, use drawings and objects to model number sense and operations and practice collecting, sorting, and organizing data using concrete objects to encourage data analysis. They also play games to make learning fun, such as Firefighting Subtraction (they build buildings out of blocks and "put out" the red fire blocks while learning how to subtract in the process), Shape Monsters (they feed a large "monster" that only eats specifics shapes and colors to reinforce sorting) and Hot Potato Tens (they must count by tens as fast as they can while passing around a hot potato!). Through positive reinforcement and fun, the children challenge math standards for their ages and surpass all expectations! "My child has been loving his Math Munchers class and his school is so impressed! He can even help his big sister with her homework - it's fabulous! Now, he thinks his Kindergarten math is 'easy peasy' and his teachers tell me that he does three laps around the math stations during math period!" - Wellesley Mom
